I try to create a fun learning environment, ensuring the youth can ask questions, have flexibility at their learning speed and still master the material in ways that will stay with them. Depending on the subject area, I like to give hypotheticals, questions and real-world examples that will help achieve memorization easier.
After graduating from Georgetown University in Washington D.C., I returned to Wyoming to work in politics and government. My tutoring began while I was studying at Montana State University. My Junior year I enrolled in a class that was based around community service and my role was tutoring middle school aged children. The tutoring was in a small group setting and was on any subject the children needed help in but mainly in reading comprehension. After college, I attended Via Lingua where I became certified to teach ESL. It was here that my tutor experience expanded. For 4 months, I not only taught night classes but tutored on a one-one basis with students who needed further assistance. After moving back to the U.S., I got a job at American Cultural Exchange at Montana State University. When I started here my first job was tutoring 3 students from Japan. My style of teaching includes visual explanation (white board or chalk board), oral discussion, and hands-on manipulation when ever possible. I try to use as many teaching styles as possible as not all students learn via the same means. My style is also fexible based on the student I am instructing (age or handicaps). A Little Bit About Me...

I am an active teacher. I want students to understand the subject in the context of their own lives as opposed to just learning definitions. If they can realate the information to an actual happening, they are more likely to remember. In terms of test preparation, aside from learning the information it is important to work on test-taking skills (relaxation, focus, etc.). Being prepared for such large tests is more than just knowing, it is recalling under pressure. I work with all of that to help the student.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching has become a major part of my life. I have taught mostly university students and adults but like teaching children as well. I believe that teaching older students is more challenging than teaching kids. I think adults require a more in depth explanation of grammar rules and structures. In my classes I gave these explanations with an easy going, patient, and fun attitude. With children, I think it is important to show them that hard work is important to achieve success in their future. Living in Korea and Japan opened my eyes to how hard other cultures work in order to reach their goals.
