Coaching and mentoring has always been the cornerstone of my professional career as well as my academic pursuits. My professional experience includes Chief Operating Officer of a large LLC and a Bank President. I received my B.A. from the University of Phoenix in Criminal Justice Administration. Following, I was immediately accepted into a PhD program at Arizona State University. As a PhD student I study all facets of psychology within; and pertaining to, organizations. I taught middle school and high school Language and Literature for two years at a private school. During that time I also tutored in the subjects of history, math, and science. I am currently working on my Masters degree in Education and have had refresher courses in the areas of study outside of my initial degree. I love working with students and have taken courses specifically in test prep.
I am an active teacher. I want students to understand the subject in the context of their own lives as opposed to just learning definitions. If they can realate the information to an actual happening, they are more likely to remember. I believe that in order to help a student you must first be able to connect with him/her. That could mean understanding a student’s background, researching the latest video games or playing softball after class. For example, several of the girls I worked with at the JEI Learning Center, spoke very little English. Often they got frustrated and just sort of shut down -- stopped responding. At first I tried to have them draw pictures but when that didn't work, I asked them to show me something from home. They folded cranes and strawberries out of the paper that I gave them. Though the exercise didn't help them understand verb tense, it did help build trust between us. After that, when they felt insecure or confused, I was less intimidating.

Writing these essays brought on my desire to travel around the world, learning first hand how other cultures live and work in their society. Teaching English abroad became the way to feed my curiosity. I have had numerous experiences teaching English locally and abroad.
