My teaching style involves fun and an active student. Self-discovery is the best way to learn and retain knowledge. I see myself as the facilitator; I give my students the tools, so they can figure out problems on their own and become more self-reliant. I want learning to be fun, involving games, healthy competition and active learning, so students become life long learners. I started tutoring classmates in seventh grade and tutored friends in college in Trigonometry. I have earned two BS degrees in Landscape Architecture and Computer Science with a minor in Math. this diverse education allows me to tutor in Math and Science as well as design and art. I have tutored part-time since 2004, mostly in high school Math, but have also assisted in Chemistry, CBEST, SAT, and GRE prep. I have also developed coursework and taught at UCSC in the classroom setting, and trained employees.
My first visit is just an assessment of where the student began to get lost regardless of the age or level. For the past 10 years, I have worked in my community, helping to better the lives of children. At age 15, I began mentoring young girls and volunteering for a non-profit organization, counseling developmentally delayed children and at-risk youth. I later went on to become a Behavioral Therapist, educating children with autism. My love for children (and passion for education) was the determining factor in the course of my college career. I attained a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Utah in 2008 (graduating with a cumulative GPA of 3.8). After graduating from California State University in 1992 with a Bachelors degree in Child Development and Family Studies I taught and directed a school for a period of seven years before returning home to homeschool my own children for a period of ten years from preschool through eighth grade.
