In college, I was a peer tutor in Math, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. I have sub-taught for CUSD 5, and CUSD 87, for 3 years. I have a Illinois Type 09 Certification, which is currently valid in McLean County. I have good grammar skills, and very good mathematical skills. I completed 2 semesters of Organic chemistry, 3 quarters of College Algebra, and 2 quarters of College Calculus (single variable only) I have had a lot of experience working with autistic students, behavior disorder students, and LD students, also.
My teaching style is one which engages the student actively in the learning process. I have used the "popcorn" technique in a classroom, where I call out "popcorn", then call on someone at random. I believe that each and every student has an ability to learn and it is necessary to find a method of teaching conducive to the individual. For example, I was a student that learned though hands on activities and writing. Having a teacher stand and lecture never appealed to me. Other children, and adults, may be more apt to retain through reading or repetition. I have had a passion for education since I was a third grade student. I always thought I wanted to be a teacher "when I grew up." I earned a BA in psychology and started a Master's program in elementary education. Due to personal circumstances, however, I was not able to complete the program. I then taught early childhood and continued to volunteer in schools. I now work in the education department at Bradley University.
