I have a master's degree in English plus 21 hours. I taught high school English for 21 years. I now teach online and tutor at the Boys and Girls Club. I have expertise in writing, literature, and grammar. When I was an English teacher I taught English 7 - 12. During those years I taught a total of 21 Shakespearean plays to my five classes. I taught middle school English, American Literature, English Literature, and Advanced Placement courses. I used to teach ACT and SAT prep at Sylvan Learning Center.

I believe that the purpose of tutoring is to help students help themselves, or to assist or guide them to the point at which they become an independent learner. Having recently completed an AAS degree in Information Systems Management, with a focus in Network Administration and Network Security/Computer Forensics, one of the comments frequently received from my instructors was in reference to my technical writing skills. The recent AAS degree required extensive submission of APA-style formatted academic papers, so I have a high comfort level and significant experience base in that area. When I first started college, I had no idea what to major in. I started taking creative writing and literature classes though, and found my niche in English. I enjoy writing, reading, proofreading, checking grammar and punctuation, and find myself reviewing billboards and magazines for errors. I've been able to put these skills to actual use as an instructor, tutor, and advisor for college students. I have taught Business Writing, Business Communication, and Keyboarding classes. I have also had a great deal of experience with public speaking and have played piano for more than 20 years. In the end though, it's a great joy to see a student "get it" and to help them realize their full potential.
