I am a Master's recipient and a prospective medical student

Biology is one of my top subjects!

I am a retired teacher who taught various science courses for 25 years in the Jefferson Parish Public School System. Over the years I have taught biology, chemistry, earth science, physical science, and even pre-algebra. I have a proven track record of results in science education. Many of my students have gone on to have excellent careers as doctors, nurses, dentists, and other science-related disciplines. Also, I can speak a little Spanish although I do not consider myself bilingual.
I feel the best way to teach is to put yourself in the student's place. I realize that most science material is totally new to the student so the teacher must not assume that the student just "knows these things." You have to start from square one and explain the concepts thoroughly. The teacher should never move on to a new concept until the student has mastered the previous concept.

Graduation led to a year long internship in the Presbyterian ministry. After ordination, I spent 12 years as a minister, including three as a chaplain in the National Guard, including Iraq. In general, I like to assist the student visually and with real-life examples of how subjects such as chemistry, physics, and math can be applied to everyday life. My goal is to make learning fun not by lecturing, but encouraging the student to get involved and ask questions.
