I graduated May 2013 from Fredonia with a Bachelors degree in Childhood Education. My concentration is in English. I spent a year of professional development in the Hamburg school district where I had student teaching placements in first, second, and fifth grade. I have spent the last year learning the Common Core standards and aligning curriculum to them. I've worked as a substitute teacher for the last 3 years and have 2 children of my own. I graduated a year early from high school which then led me to the local community college.At the community college, I found myself being president of a local club known as Earth Awareness.I then graduated with my Associates Degree in Biology with honors.Cornell University was the next stage in my life where I became part of a local honors group known as Alpha Zeta Fraternity.Although attending Cornell University was a great honor; I felt that it was too large of a school for me(300+ in some courses) which then led me to SUNY at Fredonia.I will now be graduating from SUNY Fredonia with my Bachelor of Science in Biology this December 2009.I plan on attending graduate school at Fredonia University and earning my Master of Science in Biology.

As an Honor roll student, a student on the Dean's list I was lucky to have graduated early. I taught six graders through opelia. I have also tutored a master's Student through her Statistics. Currently tutoring a student via online on her Senior Algebra for her Liberal Arts degree. I will hold a BA degree come december of 2010. The single most important thing about being a teacher or mentor is to be respectful, socially aware, and sensitive. Okay, that's three things, but they kind of go together. The second most important thing about being a mentor is to create understanding about the underlying principle of whatever it is he or she is learning about. Once you understand the underlying principle, the "how to" stuff becomes a *lot* easier to understand and remember. On the other hand, a person who's trying to learn the "how to" stuff without understanding the underlying principles is likely to forget key things, to be tripped up when an unexpected question arises, and to get into other trouble.
