I'll Teach your Student to Teach Him or Herself

I hate lecturing! I do! This is why my tutoring style is very interactive. I don't like talking AT a person, I prefer to have a conversation. My goal as a tutor is to make subjects interesting, and also to make sure they stick- so you can do well on exams. I also teach study skills in every session, so ideally you won't have to rely on me forever. I try to give students tools that they can use to teach them how to teach themselves- something they'll have to do if they're considering college.
I have worked as a tutor for 10 years in all subjects, especially focusing on ESL learners. Teaching can be a most wonderful adventure. I believe every child can learn. At times students or overwhelming with new concepts, and they need to be encouraged, and praise until they can accomplish the task at hand. I enjoy seeing the appearence of awareness on a childs face, when they have accomplished a goal, or solved a problem they had difficulty solving. Having grown up in Costa Rica attending a bilingual school, I am fully fluent in English and Spanish, and tutored language learners often in high school and college. I received my B.S. in Biology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where I was involved in the Science Education club, and assisted in several university and state-funded after-school programs for middle school students.
