A Little Bit About Me...

I began learning Spanish in the 4th grade at an excellent public school in Ohio. I became fast friends with a foreign exchange student from Nicaragua, whose limited English proficiency was my greatest opportunity to learn Spanish. In my junior year at Otterbein College I traveled to Segovia, Spain and studied at the University of Segovia for two semesters. Since that time I have taught ESL and Spanish to hundreds of students. I have traveled extensively in Latin America and the Caribbean, and am familiar with idiomatic expressions and local customs throughout the Hispanic community.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been involved in a lot of activities and feel the best way to teach is to relate to the student. As a tutor, I have worked with many different types of students and I found a way to relate the information to something they were interested in. I believe all students are capable of learning the material; it just has to be presented in a way they understand.
I received my BS degree in 2007 in pre-medicine. I majored in pre-professional zoology and I have a minor in biochemistry. I also worked at the Talent Development Center as a tutor for biology, botany, chemistry and biochemistry. I have a strong background in all science courses and maintained a 3.87 GPA throughout college.

I started teaching Music in 1984. I taught part-time, temporary while pursuing education goals and working as a professional musician. In 1998 I became an adult educator, and in the following nine years I taught GED, Workforce, Computer and ESL. I learned to speak Spanish from some of my ESL students. Today I run a new program called Bachillerato de las Americas en Arkansas, comprised of curricula obtained from Kingston, Jamaica and Heredia, Costa Rica. I enjoy teaching all age levels.
I consider myself a facilitator, not an authoritarian. I ascribe to the principles set forth by Malcolm Knowels and Benjamin Bloom. I rely on the strength and motivation of the student.
