My comments on tutoring Grammar : My grammar is excellent. I was a copy editor at the Niagara Gazette for three years..

I try to engage my student, to tease the learning out of him or her. I have learned to explain, to give the information then to step back, allowing my student to think through to the conclusion. This involves silence sometimes, and the student talking more while I talk less, something not so easy for a teacher of Italian descent. Experiences has shown, however, that it often works.

This allows the students to get a brief introduction to the day’s material before they work in groups on questions about the material. I feel that student’s can learn best from each other because they are all at the same level. If a group is unsure of an answer they can always ask the teacher or look it up in a book. When it comes to teaching or tutoring, I find that it is necessary to craft a pedagogical style that will match the learning style of your student. Each student learns in a different way, whether visually, aurally, kinesthetically, subconsciously, or simply by rote. I find that it is necessary to try each option with all students.
