A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy earnest and humble students, learning with and from them. I feel uncomfortable not learning laterally as well as vertically, seeing that to be knowledgeable, one must not just memorize but ruminate on what was memorized, making as many lateral connections as expedient. I like to simply direct and expand a student's learning as opposed to an artifactual accomplishment; however, my premiere obligation is punctual achievement of task.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked as a tutor in my college's writing center and as a teaching assistant in major course requirements. I will graduate at the end of this month with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in English, having completed more than 90 credit hours in literature studies and 18 credit hours of creative writing. I am a recipient of the Haussner Endowed Writing Award and have presented my work at the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society annual convention (2010 & 2011) and my college's Student Research Day. I have been substitute teaching for 5 years. Within that time I decided that teaching was for me and went on to get my degree and certificate to teach. I have completed several long-term substitute teaching positions, picking up where a teacher left off, often times unexpectedly. I have taught classes in the elementary, middle and high school.
My philosophy is that education is power. Knowledge is our greatest defense and our greatest weapon. Through knowledge we gain experience, which enriches our competence, which protests the ills of society, which leads to a social justice, and most important, liberty. Learning is an activity that we should never stop, and if we do, we begin to die. I believe all children can learn given the appropriate avenues to success. Part of our job is to find those avenues and encourage our students to use them.
