A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is not memorization but rather practice. The best method that I found for teaching math based subjects is step by step work throughs for each problem. By taking the time to step through each math problem, the student learns the theory (Algebra, geometry, etc) as well as the solution. Just solving the problem doesn't teach them as much as understanding HOW to get the solution
I have taught mathematics, statistics and technical math for 15 years. Primarily my audience has been working adults seeking to take a certification examination. In my training as a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt and Quality Engineer, I use many mathematical models, including algebra, geometry, statistics, and engineering modeling.

As an undergraduate at Slippery Rock University, I was approached by my adviser and chair-person in Physics to tutor their physics classes. I accepted their offer and within the two years of tutoring physics I enjoyed helping fellow students learn and understand the concepts of physics. Also, while helping others I could use the knowledge I have learned in previous classes and gain a better understanding of the field of physics. I am currently in the 3-2 Physics/Engineering program between Penn State and Slippery Rock studying Electrical Engineering. I have recently completed the first 3 years at Slippery Rock and in the fall will be attending Penn State University. A Little Bit About Me...

Through my independent studies, and the theories of teaching that I've learned, I know that students learn in different ways. I am a staunch believer in the teacher making any and all necessary adaptations to help students reach their and my maximal expectations. Beyond the skills that a student must possess to attain their goals and succeed, the teacher must first instill a sense of worth and inspiration to drive the student. Whether it is a better grade or just the intrinsic value of learning something, all students must be given something to strive for. I hope to truly teach all of the students that I will encounter in my lifetime some sort of skill that will be of true value to them.
I've been an avid, life-long reader and writer. I never intended to become a teacher until I began to work with children who have autism. My passion to work with kids, and teach, started in those f ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I prefer to begin by having the student describe the current subject matter to the best of his/her abilities to determine a starting point. I have found that having the student talk through the subject matter can be useful in determining his/her strengths and level of understanding. I like to have the student work through some problems they have not been assigned from their book/notes so that they are able to practice and work through some other problems before attempting any assignments. I have also found that it is useful to go over any previous quizzes or tests related to the current subject matter as difficulties are sometimes related to previous work because with these subjects the work tends to build upon itself.
I have been selected as a peer tutor through Carlow University for Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.

I always believe that the student can learn just as much from, or even more from, each other. Not just from the teacher alone.
