I am passionate about tutoring. I have been tutoring formally and informally since I started college. I have done group and one-on-one tutoring for college students, international students, and high school students in chemistry, math, English, biology, and other subjects. I have taught high school Oceanography, Chemistry, and Biology. I have also taught Junior High technology. In addition to having my chemistry degree, a minor in biology and a teaching certificate in both subjects, I have some experience teaching college and elementary school classes.

A Little Bit About Me...

I find that many of the problems that students have with mathematics are not a result of an inability to understand the subject, but an inability to grasp the material as presented by the teacher, and a resulting disinterest. I like to spend the first couple of meetings with the student assessing how they learn best and giving them some tricks that lead to success in an area that has given them a lot of trouble. Through their success, we can build interest in the subject, and through understanding their learning patterns, we can present the material in a way that makes sense to them. The result of this method is that the subject becomes easier for the student to understand, and the applications make it more interesting to the student.

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have taught in a regular classroom setting, I have found that I am most successful working one-on-one with students. I love that in tutoring I can push students to understand their gifts and thus achieve their full academic potential. I have found that with the right tutoring and guidance, any student can be successful in math. I am very patient and easygoing, and yet I expect a lot out of every student I work with. I believe that students learn best by discovering and then applying these concepts to everyday life.
