Professional Instruction on the Trumpet

Dr. Evan Duke (D.M.A., M. Mus., and B. Mus.) has performed on trumpet, cornet, and French Horn. His past teachers include Jim Ruffaner, Bob Birch, Dan Kirsop, and Mark Clodfelter. From 2004-2006, Evan was involved in three operatic productions: Andrea Chenier, Elixir of Love, and Mefistofele. Evan continues to perform actively in both the Operatic and Music Theater worlds, including recent performances of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story and Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury. In the summers of 2004, 2005, and 2008 Evan traveled on The Musical Mission Team, a combination choir and brass ensemble that toured Europe and gave nearly 100 concerts per summer. I was home-schooled until the sixth grade with my three brothers. I completed junior high at a private school and then graduated Salutatorian from a public high school. My parents operated a small day care that I worked in with school age children completing homework assignments. I have also worked in a Day Care as a caregiver for small children. Volunteering at a Family Literacy program and doing Student Practicums for three years followed by a semester of Student Teaching have all prepared me to teach children from all backgrounds with different educational and emotional needs.

I've been teaching informally most of my adult life. I earned a 193 out of a possible 200 on a Praxis test that covered content knowledge of my subject area (English literature), and 179 in a comprehensive middle school language arts test, and am enrolled in Capella University, where I'm currently pursuing a master's of science degree in K-12 studies. Teaching has been my passion for a long time. My biggest strengths are not only considerable knowledge in my subject area, but life experience: I know what kids are up against if they do not maximize their educational chances in a timely manner.
