I will receive my bachelors degree in mathematics from Purdue University in May 2012; however I began my college career in math education so I have taken many methods/teaching courses. In the past I have done short-term tutoring for algebra/pre-algebra, geometry, high school calculus (calc 1), and algebra II. I have also tutored in English as a second language, specifically for native Spanish speakers. I specifically enjoy helping with homework or test prep, where the student has specific problems to work through. Otherwise, I can explain basic concepts and give practice problems to work through. I really like to work through a lot of examples because without practice it can be difficult to apply.

I graduated Cum Laude from Ball State with a double major in Visual Communication and Genetics. Both my parents were teachers and I often tutored my friends. My teaching style is to provide several ways to solve a problem. Since learning is done in different ways, one of the solution methods will turn on a light bulb and the student will "get it". My teaching style depends on the student. It takes some time to identify what methods work best on the individual. In most cases, the student just needs a clearer explanation than his/her book or instructor is providing. Also, I like to create visual examples that make an abstract concept into something more practical.
