I taught and tutored ESL two years before entering law school. I hae taught college classes as an adjunct and later FT professor at Penn College for 25 years. I currently serve as Career Outreach Coordinator for HACC-Lebanon Campus. I have tutored many students, particularly in areas such as writing essays. I also served as a reader for the SAT Writing section, so I am familiar with what they are seeking. I am very proficient in grammar and structure.
My teaching style with students of all ages is to facilitate their learning as opposed to simply feeding them what I feel is the best response. Students learning is maximized when they can take ownership of and pride in their work. I am very patient. Because of my experience in teaching my own children, I have discovered that no child is too young to learn. Often people will not consider an infant or toddler a "functioning human being" until the child can speak. This is so inaccurate! I taught one of my daughters to read at age four. I have worked at Huntington Learning Center in the past and enjoyed the tutoring experience. There is no better feeling then helping a student reach his/her potential.

When students are more visual I try to use photos or stories to explain concepts. However, when students learn better by reading I allow them to do so, and discuss the reading after they have had time to absorb the information.
