A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a sonographer for 15 years and passed my credential on the first try with nearly perfect scores. I have extensive knowledge in the field and always keep up on current medical trends. My goal is to help my students comprehend the material in the most efficient manner. Minimal time and maximum gain is the standard here.
Very laid back but effective teaching style.

Physics is one of my top subjects! I earned my M.S. in Physics from Depaul University in 2012 and have been a full time instructor of physics, engineering and astronomy at Moraine Valley Community College ever since. While at Depaul I worked as a private tutor and had many satisfied students who saw a great increase in their grades. I am currently working on my M.S. in Science Education.

I earned my B.S. in physics from Loyola University in 2010 and my M.S. in physics from Depaul University in 2012. While at Depaul I was a TA where I assisted in calculus based physics courses and also tutored high school and college physics students on the side. After graduating I became a full time instructor of physics, engineering and astronomy at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, and just received tenure this past fall. I am currently working on a second M.S. in Science Education which I will complete in the summer of 2016, and this summer will begin a third M.S. in Aerospace Engineering.
I like to make my approach to tutoring specific to each student. Most students simply need help with problem solving, and so I like to spend my hour or two a week with them working through homework problems (or problems which are similar) where I can determine their approach ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Education has been a strong theme in my life and I know every kid deserves to have the same opportunity that I have had in my life. Even though I don't have any professional teach training, I compelled to help those that I can, using what I have learned. Everyone has a different learning style, so I believe in being patient and finding a unique way to teach each child according to his style. I am very patient and understanding person, who is willing to do what it takes to make a difference it at least one child’s life.
Having a Biochemistry degree, I am well trained in science classes. I was also required and excelled in math classes up to Calculus 3. Therefore, math and science are my strong points. I was a tutor for math and science in the Multi-Cultural Center at my community college for a year. I was also a Sunday school teacher at my church for kids ranging from the age of 8 ... read more

I have a BS in journalism, and a specialization in advertising/integrated marketing communications. I also have minors in English and psychology. As a result of studying both journalism and English, I have an extensive background in writing. I have tutored ESL students to learn to read and write in English.
My teaching style involves demonstrating how to understand a problem or perform a task before I ask the student to do so. By facilitating students in such a way, I believe they have a more one-on-one learning experience, as opposed to a strict lecture setting. With guidance and demonstration, I believe it is easier for students to learn without pressure.

I have two bachelor degrees, one in computer science, the other in mathematics with a type 09 cert (6-12). I belong to Mensa and the NCTM, and have excellent English and decent Spanish speaking and writing skills. I have taught and tutored in mathematics and computer science for quite awhile, and I earned a 95% on my PSAT and a 32 on my ACT.
Generally, I'm a constructivist, and I believe the best method of tutoring is providing a completely individuated scaffold for any student. While I was raised in old-school education, I believe that some of the newer techniques of education through hands-on, the use of digital technology, and through writing across the curriculum are effective for many students.

In my experience I have discovered that it is better for the student, whether he or she is at elementary or university level, to come up to his or her own conclusions and answers. My style of teaching does not involve doing the work for the student, rather I like to say that I provide the necessary information and aid to point the student in the right direction. This in some cases can take a lot of time and patience, but in the end one learns better when he or she does things himself instead of someone doing it for him. I also believe that one of the most important things to do initially when teaching new students is to create a friendly environment, where the student feels at ease with asking absolutely any question pertaining to the coursework. A student will not listen to a tutor who he or she cannot speak to on a friendly level or respect. I guess to boil everything down, my approach ... read more

I love to see people grasping the simplest approach. I begin with an overview of what, exactly, is the goal and why we are doing it. I feel step by step methods, with easy to remember techniques, are best to achieving the final result. "Hands on" is definitely the approach, once the goal and methods have been established. Reiteration and practice help make problem solving achievable, and reasonably fun.
As an Electrical Engineer, I am very capable in all areas of Math and Science. I have tutored family memebers for many years in these subjects and have acted as an independent contractor for high schools in the area as well. I feel my approach to the subjects and personal disposition, make the subject matter easier to grasp. My college level courses gave me a deeper understanding of all math related topics, which makes it easier to convey these topics in understandable terms.

I have found an approach that have been effective in a classroom or group activities that has encouraged active participation in the learning process. A successful individual or a student learning experience grasps an understanding of any concept given, has the ability to apply them either at work or in a subject and develops a skill set to guide them in their path. Although I have not had teaching experience in a school environment, I have extensive experience on the job and great technical skills to provide opportunities to teach in a classroom.
Teaching and having one-on-one training, I have learned that each student learns in his or her own unique way. This takes patience, being creative and also to motivate either a student or an entire class. With my experience in operations management I have had the ability to share my experience as a leader and teach one-on-one on computers ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I used to volounteer to help my fellow students in sessions similar to tutor under supervision of the assistant professor (who holds a PhD degree in the subject). I was designated "dissector"; Those prepare for the "practical-lab." class for Anatomy. In Egyptian schools of medicine, they still use cadavers. Plastic models are gradually and partially taking over currently. Anyway, I was preferred because I use the "personal" language and the special aproach for each person.People around me call me the best "coach" because of my way of helping. I never give them a direct answer; Insetead, I give them either a "hint", a "reminder" or a "source" to find it out by themselves.
When it comes to starting a new subject, I start with questions to stimulate minds first. I start from the last step, example: How can we do elbow flexion? Then elbow joint constituents and their relation to each ... read more

I believe that by letting the student try to answer the problem by them self is the best way of learning. I will try to guide them down the right path, but even a wrong answer can teach you a lesson. I also believe that practice is the best way to become good at science or math, like a basketball player practice basketball to become better, so must a student.
I am currently writing my thesis in order to finish my Master’s degree in applied physics. My research is on experiment fluid dynamics where I am studying the affects of viscosity on glycerin. I have incredible math and science skills that I would love to teach others. I worked at a community college were I learned different methods of teaching or tutoring others.
