A Little Bit About Me...

I adapt my teaching style to the student. Every person learns differently; I generally try to find an entertaining way of teaching the material.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. I originally majored in English, as that is where most of my talent lies. I wrote several articles for my high school newspaper, have published poetry pieces, and edit reports and resumes regularly for a number of people.

Loads of ASVAB success stories, I'm on multiple websites.

Hi! While I love tutoring, this particular site charges for contact, which I am not in a position to support. I am, however, also easy to find on a rivaling website (ends in ANT), just look for the ASVAB tutor in Muskegon who has been rated and reviewed. My pet project for years has been my ASVAB tutoring program. I began helping men and women get through the ASVAB test in 1998 (when I enlisted) and over time I developed a tutoring system that has been applied to dozens of successful military applicants. In reality, though, I've been tutoring longer than that. I helped tutor younger children when I was in middle school and I continued to tutor and mentor in a variety of arenas for the next twenty years. Young children, special needs students, rehabilitated criminals, and senior citizens have all found some form of success with my approach.

I believe strongly in providing not only educational support but in providing emotional stability and consistency for each child that I work with. I have worked with some of the most profoundly behaviorally impaired students in Michigan and have been able to help them learn to cope with their disabilities while becoming successful academically. I believe that by being highly structured, yet providing for individual differences, each student has the capacity to learn.
I graduated with honors from Grand Valley State University with my Bachelors in Psychology/Special Education in 1997. My areas of expertise include emotional impairments and cognitive impairments. In 2001, I graduated with a 4.0 in my Masters of Special Education Administration program. I also received my Special Education Supervisor approval certification at this time. It is difficult for me to say which age of student I love working with because each student I have worked with from age 6 - 25 has been very rewarding. I currently work and teach at the International School of Tegucigalpa. I am a high school world history, psychology and comparative government. I have also taught economics at the high school level. I have tutored students in Language Arts at the high school and middle school letters. I am also literate in Spanish.
I really enjoy teaching and using a variety of educational methods to reach students. Some students respond much better to one-on-one teaching methods than they do in a larger class environment. I have had many successful tutoring experiences in the past with a variety of students (even those classified as having learning disabilities).

My teaching style is simply to provide an environment that is conducive to learning – one which supports collaboration and teamwork, student-centricity, personalization, fun, and humor. I am committed to providing the highest quality education for my students. Each individual learns differently, and I have come to accept that I can't entirely please each and every individual in the classroom (especially when I have over 200 students). I have also come to accept that not every student will "like me". As an instructor, it is my role to present information in a way so students learn. I have realized that students learn, not because they think I am "cool", but rather because the information was presented to accommodate each and every learning style. Therefore, I try to use a variety of different mediums (e.g., visual, audio, etc.) when presenting the class material.

My teaching methods vary depending upon the subject matter and the pupil’s preferences. I enjoy getting to know students and customizing their learning experience to the methods that will best serve them. In the classroom setting, I employ many forms of teaching, including lecture, memorization, demonstration and the Socratic Method when appropriate. I have worked with students from all backgrounds and age levels, and enjoy each student for their own unique personality and potential. I believe that all children can be successful when surrounded by people who care and tools to get them there. As a tutor, I strive to be the most valuable asset in developing the student’s learning skills and their mastery of the subject matter.
As a graduate of a Big Ten school, and a current master’s level student, I have had many focuses in school that I can teach in the tutoring setting. I also cur ... read more

I love the give and take of interaction with students. My approach is learner-centered, which means that I see each student as an individual and strive to tailor our instructional exchange to meet the needs of each person. I believe that teaching is dialogic; it is through dialogue that instructors and students together engage in the exploration process that leads to learning. I do not ascribe to the "open head, pour in facts" approach to teaching. Rather, I seek to facilitate problem solving, critical thinking, data gathering, and logical analysis that extends the student's knowledge, but more importantly teaches them to learn how to learn.
I began my career as a high school teacher teaching grades 9-12. My engagement with students at this level was highly satisfying; I loved teaching this age group speech and drama courses. After that I spent several years in a FT profession ... read more
