Aerospace Engineer with tutoring experience

I teach through examples and Q&A. I strongly encourage students to interrupt with questions as the occur. I have found through my own education, I am unable to focus or concentrate when thinking of another question. Often small benign questions can lead to larger answers or breakthroughs for students.
I have mentored/ tutored elementary students in first Lego league competition while as college student. Additionally I worked as a tutor and grader for the U of I. I am a teacher with 7 years of classroom experience. My degree is in English, but I have taught in many other areas, including math, history, logic, and rhetoric. I have also tutored many students in grammar and writing, as well as Algebra I and II. I have been responsible for teaching books to students from American Literature (Hawthorne and Hemingway), European Literature (Dickens and Shakespeare), and World Literature (Gilgamesh and Homer).
I prefer the Socratic method of asking/answering questions and discussion, but I am more than capable of diverting to a more lecture style of teaching if that is what works with the student. I tailor my teaching style to the strengths of the student.
