My comments on tutoring GMAT : I tutor the math portions of the test - the quantitative section and integrated reasoning. We review necessary math skills, and strengthen fundamentals so you are equipped for the data sufficiency questions, and I give you the tools needed to quickly arrive at answers without the calculator. I teach a way to read the word problems to correctly set up the question being asked. We work on timing as well, making sure you are solving only enough of the problem to answer the question. As a recent graduate of a rigorous medical school program, I have been able to succinctly summarize and whittle down an extraordinary amount of information into actionable parts. The motto of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society is "Love of learning is the guide of life". I live my own life by this ideal, and I try my best to instill a love of learning in my students. Too many students believe, indeed have been taught, that math is just a series of formulas and recipes to be learned and memorized. Understanding concepts doesn’t seem to be necessary or even desirable. No wonder students “hate” math! I believe that understanding important concepts is essential to learning math, and that obtaining the "right answer" is less important than trying to understand a problem and “discovering” a method to solve it, even if that method is “not what the teacher is looking for.”
