Karen M - Snowmass Village, CO 81615 (32.6 mi) - Government Tutor - $38.50/hr.
I bring a lot of energy to the classroom and ensure that I am over-prepared for each lesson. I enjoy involving every student in a classroom setting and encourage an active, open learning environment. I also believe it is a very valuable experience to be able to work with students one-on-one. I like to work with each student to figure out his or her individual learning style and needs. Though it may not be applicable for this position, I try to plan group activities when possible, so that students can learn from one another and help each other work through problems. Before deciding to return to graduate school in 2006, my relevant professional experience included teaching LSAT courses through Kaplan in the Washington, DC area during 2005. Previously, I had tutored high school students in languages and math with University Instructors from 2003-2004 in Williamsburg, VA. I also taught

First, I would review with the student the kinds of learning he or she had had success with and adjust the following to the student's learning style.
For "Writing Research Papers" I would start with an excellent published paper and then I would review the student's work with explanation.
For "U. S. Government" I would incorporate the skill of outlining and review the student's outlines until the important material was included and learned
For "Statistics" there is nothing like doing problems. I would start with an explanation of the chapter's subject matter and work with the student in doing problems and discussing the method and meaning. While a doctoral student in finance, I assisted Professor David Rush in teaching Basic Finance to an auditorium of undergraduates. I had two parts to perform. I maintained office hours to meet with students who had questions or prob

Randi A - Gunnison, CO 81230 (45.2 mi) - Government Tutor - $52.00/hr.
I believe that if a student doesn't understand what is being taught, part of the fault lies in the way the information is being presented. Most standard classroom settings do not provide the type of learning environment many students need, and I believe this is the root cause of their struggle with the subject matter, not the subject matter itself and certainly not the student. I am very good at explaining concepts in many different ways and work patiently and at the student's own pace. Frustration with the subject and/or the teacher only makes the learning process more difficult, so I try to keep the learning fun and tap into the student's own interests and experience in order to make the subject accessible. I am a passionate, driven, ambitious learner and teacher. I graduated Valedictorian of my High School with a 4.0 GPA and Summa Cum Laude from College with 191 credits and a GPA of 3
