I graduated with an MFA in English from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop in May of 2008, and I am currently the Provost’s Post-Graduate Writing Fellow in fiction at the University of Iowa. A Little Bit About Me...

I've been a special education teacher and held positions in resource and in self-contained rooms. I've taught students with learning problems in reading, math, and writing. I have also worked in the Lights on for Learning program and have been a home tutor for home bound students in the district.
I'm a strong believer in the Gardner's ideas of many different learning styles and types of intelligent. Some students are better audio, tactile, or visual learners. I feel it is the teacher's responsibility to find the best learning style for each student and build on that format through scaffolding. During my undergraduate education I was very dedicated in pursuing my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and completed a variety of experiences working with students. Last fall I worked as a student teacher in third grade. The 17 students in my class had a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, special needs, and multicultural differences which presented many unique challenges. After graduation I was asked to stay on at the school to work as a Positive Action Center (PAC) Facilitator.
