My comments on tutoring Calculus II : Taught differential equations

I have taught college level courses for twenty-five years and have enjoyed it greatly. Most of teaching has been at private colleges with small class size. Student evaluations have ranged from good to excellent. Students have particularly found me helpful in office visits. I have also tutored high school students in math and science.

My degree in Psychology has a strong basis in Behavior Analysis. This is what I will be getting my Master’s degree in starting in the Fall. My teaching style mainly focuses on positive reinforcement. I use positive reinforcement in order to increase a behavior of choice. I have always been a quick learner when it comes to mathematics. It is something that comes almost natural to me. With that said, I understand that this is not the case for everyone. I feel that a good majority of people hate math because they don't understand math, and because they don't understand math right away, they don't try to understand it. I had a wise professor once tell me, "Math isn't difficult; there is no such thing as difficult math. It just seems difficult because you haven't learned it yet". I think math can be easy for anyone, they just have to learn it first.

I worked first hand with professor and teaching assistant and have learned what they are looking for. I believe in teaching concepts and helping students fully understand ideals rather than students just memorizing facts. This way no matter what the professor asks they will know how to answer questions and ace exams. If they just memorize things, they can get confused and get answers distorted.
