A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Mount Union College in May 2006 with a BA in History and a double minor in Adoloescent to Young Adult Education and American Studies. Throughout high school I was a teacher's assistant helping with students in class during my study halls as well as working one on one with students for extra study skills. In the past few years I have tutored students in elemtary math, middle school reading and writing, and even my own students before and after school in social studies. I currently teach Civics and Economics which is an EOC course and I have taught this for 6 years now. Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.
Web manager and usability analyst as well as instructor. I have been asked at various jobs to teach training classes to my peers because of my ability to deliver an easy to understand lesson. I've been told I am very good at explaining a topic that someone has no experience with at all. I am on contract with NC States Computer Training Unit.

I also believe that most people are smart. i've had high school students who read at a 3rd grade level--but they were smart when addressing subjects of interest to them. I teach by starting with the familiar--what students understand--and then buiding on it. In teachiing high school in East L.A., I would ask students to write about literature, say Wuthering Heights, starting with what themes were familiar.
