Special Needs Tutor

I have been trained in many therapeutic settings (speech, OT, social skills groups, schools) to work with children with special needs and Autism. I have worked as a 1:1 assistant to children with Autism and other disabilities including ADHD, social/emotional disorders, MR, and Down Syndrome in the Concord and Bow school Districts (Prek- 8th grade). I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. I like to help define the topic in common terms, not the classic dictionary method. I use presentation, discussion, videos and hands on activities. Most of what I do is inquiry based.

I started out working as a Head Start teacher's assistant and the following year I was promoted to Head Start teacher and manager. I have also worked as a 1:1 instructional assistant with a high needs student. Currently I worked in a behavior school as an instructional assistant, and I have stepped in to plan curriculum and teach all the classes because the teacher has been on paid leave this year.
