A Little Bit About Me...

Tutored math for the 2007/2008 fall and winter quarters at Mt. Hood Community College. Substitute taught at Indianapolis public Schools (1994) and Warren Township Schools (May 2007) in Indiana. Taught adult sunday school Summer of 1990 and fall 1991.
I have a way of teaching that simplifies the subject to the student, who may not be so mathematically inclined. Got certified at Mt. Hood Community College in a tutoring method which emphasizes questioning the student in a way which brings the student to a place where they can solve the problem themselves.

My learning and teaching preference is reading/writing. I adjust to students who are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. I like to use examples to drive concepts home, to make them relevant to my students' lives, and to ground these concepts in reality. Examples include, say, how geometry is used to create movie 3D special effects, or how algebra is used in sound editing in a sound studio. I also intersperse jokes and puns to help the student relax and be assured that (s)he is in a safe, secure environment for comfortable learning.

As an English major I have always enjoyed and excelled in the field. I was top of my class in high school. I also aided in the kindergarten class. I changed my major in college because I knew English was my calling. I have a Bachelor's degree from Warner Pacific. I enjoyed my classes and did extremely well. I aided at Clackamas High for a while, where I enjoyed the one on one with the students. In my current job I have trained and taught many associates.
