I earned a bachelors degree in Elementary Education with special attention to reading from Purdue University. In Aug. 2008-May 2009 I taught kindergarten at West Grove Elementary in Center Grove Community School Corporation. During this time I filled in for two teachers on extended leaves. This experience allowed me to gain knowledge about teaching and how to instruct diverse students. I learned many different teaching strategies, including differentiation and integration with multiple subjects. My style is relaxed, but focused, with a touch of humor to ease nerves. The first step is creating comfort and trust between the student and the tutor. To do this, when coaching Chemistry, I would have the student present a problem. Then, I'd say, well, let's figure this out together. And, truly, that is what we would do, step by step, by asking questions. What do we know? What do we need to figure out?
