A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught classes at the college level since 2004. These include U.S. History surveys, the Civil War, African-American History, and others. I have worked mostly with teenagers in these classes. Recently, I tutored high school students at Dr. Linda Pearson's Reading and Math Center in Birmingham, AL. I am very comfortable working with students to improve their reading and writing abilities.

My teaching style exhibits a very individualized, hands-on approach. Even in a classroom with 20-30 students, I attempt to understand individual learning styles and work with students on an individual basis when possible. As a tutor, my approach is not to use a standard approach to which I expect the student to adhere. I feel it is my responsibility to understand how the student learns and comes to understand. I received a bachelors degree in both history and sociology which gave me the credentials to teach Sociology 101 classes at the college level while attaining my masters degree, which I then used to teach as an instructor for nine months at two separate colleges. I am finishing up my second masters degree, and want nothing more than to share the knowledge I have learned with others.
I am an active teacher, especially when allowed to create my own curriculum. I love to incorporate lectures with powerpoints, videos with discussions, and book readings with field trips. I think the best way to get young people involved in learning is to keep their minds thinking and never reach the point of predictability. As a recent graduate from the University of Alabama, I have possessed a passion for learning in hopes to become a doctor. I have earned a BS in Biology and a MS in Human Environmental Science.
