A Little Bit About Me...

I began to realize my love and aptitude for tutoring as a volunteer Japanese instructor for the Daikin home-stay program in 2006. The next two years I volunteered my time with Rosie's International Services tutoring Spanish. At the beginning of the Spring 2008 semester, the Head of the Foreign Language Department, Dr. Maier, submitted my name to a tutoring department at UAH, where I worked tutoring Spanish, Japanese, Latin, Chinese, and English as a Second Language until I graduated in Spring 2010. A Little Bit About Me...

I think educators must take into account the different ways in which students learn. For instance, I've noticed that math students may have difficulty adding and subtracting fractions, but have no trouble whatsoever when I ask about dimes and quarters. If an instructor can build a bridge between new material and material the student has already mastered, the student's retention can significantly improve. By getting to know the interests and knowledge of each, I hope to discover bridges that will make learning an exciting and enjoyable process.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am rather easy-going, and am flexible in the material that I teach. Depending on the needs of the student, I can either provide a lesson plan each session or help the student with homework. I can provide references upon request when I am hired.
I have tutored as a self-employed tutor in French, and my student was ahead of her class for the beginning of the next year. I have also weekly taught two classes at two elementary schools in French. I have been to Québec, Canada, two of the past three summers, in which I had a great immersion to a degree in the language. Also, I have done some volunteer translations for Huntsville, AL; England; and Sherbrooke, Québec. French was my minor when I received my BBA in 2009.
