A Little Bit About Me...

I am a high school student living in Madison AL, 35758. I am sixteen (16) years old I have passed Algebra 2 w/Trig and any lower math i will be able to teach. I am skilled in teaching C and C++ programming having taken multiple classes passing with an A average. I am also a JROTC student and have taken the ASVAB, scoring an 85. I can help with all section except engineering and science. I have taught my younger brother and his friends along with other high school students. I am good with kids and approach each student with a mind set to teach in a manner that will help them understand.

In school I took a class that taught us that everyone learns in a different way. Just like how everyone sees things from different perspectives. After taking that class I realized that there is not just one way to teach or learn. I feel learning should be educational but fun. Repetition is also important. These aspects should all be combined in order to successfully help children learn. I am friendly, easy going, and like to have a good time. Learning does not have to be a chore but can be an exciting experience that a child can enjoy and appreciate. I worry that children think learning is boring and not worth their effort. One good experience can open a child's eyes to the opportunities around them.

I think educators must take into account the different ways in which students learn. For instance, I've noticed that math students may have difficulty adding and subtracting fractions, but have no trouble whatsoever when I ask about dimes and quarters. If an instructor can build a bridge between new material and material the student has already mastered, the student's retention can significantly improve. By getting to know the interests and knowledge of each, I hope to discover bridges that will make learning an exciting and enjoyable process.
I graduated from Wake Forest in 2008, double-majoring in Mathematics and Physics.
