As a graduate of a private liberal arts college, I was educated in English and multi-cultural literature. As a reflection of what I was learning, I became interested in participating in the literary tradition, and began to take creative writing very seriously. I developed a passion for both poetry and literature and wish to share it with my students. I have tutored English, writing, history, ecology, and screenwriting.

I graduated with a teaching degree and taught high school as well as junior high. Since then, I have also been involved with elementary, kindergarten, and one on one reading (volunteer). I recently completed courses in Inclusion and Classroom management. Being involved in post-rehab and fitness, I have experience of working with adults as well. I believe the first step is to always ascertain where a student is in their comprehension of the subject and what their propensity is to learn (i.e. quick learner, learns by examples etc.). That gives me an idea of how fast/slow to go and how best to get to cement actual learning. Generally, I like to get the student to arrive at answers by asking pointed questions so that their minds can understand the process versus simply memorizing the answers. I also believe in providing both positive feedback as well as constructive criticism where needed.

While living in Japan, I taught English to the Japanese nationals and was a teacher's aide in the Department of Defense Dependent's Schools in the special needs department. I worked directly with middle school children who had ADD, ADHD as well as other physical handicaps including Cerebral Palsy.
