Patient and student based.
I have had extensive experience handling and managing children and adults in a learning environment. During my time at Lahser High School, I tutored students ages 7-15 in subjects such as elementary math, history, pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II and geometry. As a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I began tutoring foreign exchange students from China in English language skills. I have had extensive experience studying Chinese language and have obtained a high degree of fluency in Mandarin Chinese. I have studied and worked in China and understand not only the language, culture and business world, but also understand the type of work, dedication and teaching it takes for a foreigner to obtain Chinese language skills. I have taken classes on law, economics and international politics in Mandarin Chinese and have worked in Chinese law fi ... read more

I have worked quite a lot with elementary school children, whether it be in or outside of work. I have done independent tutor work, mainly in the fields of Art and Language Arts. In the past I had a long-term job in which I was required to interact with young children, and I did so willingly. For two years in a row, I taught a Beginner's Guitar course for children and the feedback I received was overwhelmingly positive. I enjoy very much seeing things "click" with students, particularly young ones. It inspires me not only do teach well but also to always learn more myself.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a MSU graduate, I have experience in math up to linear algebra and abstract algebra. This includes calc 1,2, and 3 as well as differential equations. I also have taught at Michigan State University's Champ program, which is where I tutored algebra and geometry to advanced high school students. As a musical instructor, I have taught in Marshall, East Lansing, and the Detroit Area in the areas of classical guitar, electric guitar, composition, and entry-level piano. Before getting a degree in engineering, I was a music major at Michigan State University.
My teaching style is very student friendly. I engage the student in working out easy examples, which provide an illustration of fundamentals. Part of my process is to "walk through" an example with the student, showing them a process to solve a given problem. I then assign a problem for them to work out. This resembles a test-l ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I went to public schools in East Detroit, Michigan. In eighth grade I set a personal goal to attend the University of Michigan. I never had private tutors. My strongest subject is math. Mr Learmont, my junior high school history teacher would frequently say, "Take care of these books and these books will take care of you." It was that inspiration that raised me to love learning and in turn teaching others.
Thomas Edison said, "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. I am extremely persistant. Whatever it takes to get someone to understand a concept I will strive to discover it. Most of all the process of learning should be kept exciting so that the pupil is left yearning for the next lesson.

A Little Bit About Me...

While earning my BA from Oakland University, I would often tutor my fellow students and help them refine their papers. In addition to the sharp grammar skills required by my major, the numerous papers that I wrote have given me a broad general knowledge base which expands beyond the purely literary. I have also judged for the Oakland County Fair for the past two years, helping young people develop their skills in both the performing and visual arts. In addition, over the last two years, I have worked as a fact-checker and proofreader, both freelance and as an intern. I have also played acoustic guitar for 13 years.
My pedagogical style adjusts itself according to the needs of the student. I am typically patient, and considerate, yet I can be firm if I need to be. No one person learns the same way, and my goal is to provide the best possible education, customized for a student ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am used to teaching both students close to my age and students younger than I. I always try to explain ideas in ways that make the student think. I never like to hand answers to students, so I do my best at having students learn in their own way with someone helping them along. Being a virtuoso, I believe practice makes perfect in every subject. The way to best understand something new is to review it and practice it. I have a substantial amount of patience when it comes to teaching. I am also a very generous, kind, and humorous person who has learned to live life to its fullest. I work hard at making friends with everyone I meet everywhere, and I believe your best friend can also be your greatest influence in learning.

As an undergrad, I worked as a tutor in mathematics, which gave me great experience in dealing with varied learning styles. This experience strongly informed my approach to the classroom as a graduate teaching assistant and, later, as an adjunct instructor. I also have a great deal of experience with a wide variety of computer hardware and software. In addition to my primary academic focus, I am a musician; I studied classical guitar as an undergraduate, and have played and written music for the guitar for more than ten years. Over the years, my experience has shown me that I not only excel at but very much enjoy teaching/tutoring others in fundamental guitar technique and basic music theory as it relates to the guitar.
My approach begins with a clearly mapped out plan of study for the term of the course. The course syllabus, dictionary of examples, and external references must be ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I've always enjoyed the art of communicating complicated material to those who are just learing or don't quite "get it". My focus is to break things down into basic elements and achieve agreement. Then, support learning with repetition. For example: "Would you agree that if we add 5 and 5 and then another 5 that we would end up at 15?" "So, then, 5 added together three times equals 15, right?" I'm also a big fan of mindmapping for education, so I tend to use it when I lecture at college, and I encourage my students to use it as a visual recall tool.
Fifteen years corporate training experience. Continue to tutor three sons through school and college, currently unemployed working part time as adjunct faculty at Macomb College teaching courses in business applications. I also teach music, voice and guitar at my church, mentor younger musicians and help them develop into quality p ... read more
