Teaching is a wonderful experience! My teaching style is laid-back, I'd say. I like having conversations in order to determine how someone learns. I think people learn best when discussing the material and really think it out before they start creating something. Guiding a student down the path of their own learning style is important because they will need those skills in the future when they go off to college or start a career on their own. My primary experience lies with Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Program. This program was established to promote and nurture minorities interested in pursuing a career in the sciences and mathematics. I was involved in the program as a fellow. This position required me to mentor a group of younger scholar students. The position required me organize events (such as tours of science industries and resume building session), establish program outline for the school year, lead mentoring sessions, and facilitate study sessions. Establishing a friendship with a student can make the learning process go much better. Defining strengths and weakness can allow for appropriately allocation of time to promote more efficient studying. When considering my teaching style, it is difficult to explain a single process for teaching. When working with different people it is important to remain creative, inventive, and patient. Every person has different learning styles and it is important to recognize in that person what helps them understand more fully. Whether it is diagram and pictures, breaking a complex problem into many simple parts, comparing similar examples that are familiar to the person, or simply taking the time to make sure that the child feels comfortable saying "I don't know". All of these are useful tools, but in my opinion by far the most important is patience. Remaining patient when someone doesn't understand is the absolute most important thing. I believe in a teaching style that reflects a student's learning style. Whether they learn best by hearing, seeing, or doing it is important to cater to the student. My teaching style works around this philosphy and tends to be a combination of all 3 styles. Although I have recently graduated with a degree in business, I am interested in pursuing a career involving people. My previous employment was a sales position that was very customer-oriented.
