I love teaching and history. I believe that anybody can learn anything. I think if someone has not learned something it is because someone has not taught it to them at all or they have not been taught in the right way. I believe anyone can reach a high education level if they are nurtured by educators who believe in them and are patient.
At the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga I received an excellent education where I got my BA in History with a minor in Sociology. There I was taught by excellent professors who instilled in me passions for history, sociology, and intellectual discussion. I also wrote many papers which have given me good grammatical skills. A Little Bit About Me...

I love the written word and reaching people, so I ultimately chose to major in journalism. My love for teaching and instructing students led me to pursue my minor in education. In the past three years, I've tutored undergraduates in writing (grammar, composition, etc), graduate students (editing theses), proofing resumes and technical documents, and tutoring elementary and high school students in reading and basic math.
College students are difficult to work with because they think they know it all. I enjoy a Socratic method of questions to teach. Each student has her/his own style of learning and the Socratic allows me to home in on that style and give the student ownership of the larned material. I have ben told I have the parience of job and a "down-to-earth" way of explaination.

A Little Bit About Me...

I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.
I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school. After ten years working in law enforcement, I switched to social services and I have been mentoring children in foster care for the past twenty years.
