My comments on tutoring Algebra II : Grade: A

I am an organic chemist. I will only teach you at the level you are assigned. My background makes it easier for you. Anyone can learn organic chemistry or the other subjects and standardized exams I've tutored. I focus on understanding and independence with a minimum of memorization. In fact, that's the only difference between an "A" and something that is unacceptable. I hold a 100% pass rate (or better). I've learned how to make the subject simple, save you time, and learn so you retain it. We work at your pace (nothing else works) but we make progress immediately.
I establish rapport with students and quickly gauge what the difficulties are and what they concerns are. I guide you through the process and make is a step by step process to outperform others, maintain peace of mind and graduate on time. Confidence is essential in organic. We build that first and clear ... read more

My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I have taught Algebra 2 over 20 times on the high school level and am comfortable with the large range of topics this course can entail.

I am a laid back type of instructor and use my experience and intuition to create unique learning environments for each student. I like students to express themselves in their studies, and I encourage each student to express their natural gifts. I have a creative mind which allows me to relate to many types of students and many subjects and to use student's natural interests as a starting point for learning new material.
I have taught for over 30 years in a variety of institutions, but mostly public schools. I am conversant in Spanish and have a broad range of interests and fields of knowledge, including English literature, Math, History, Science, current events and Politics. I have taught grades 3-12, and have experiences teaching all income levels and socio-economic backgrounds.

Arabic? Ta'allum Al-Kitab Al-Arabiyeh

Very interested in teaching Arabic to students with ZERO experience but a strong desire to learn. My expertise is introducing new Arabic learners to the language. I am a native speaker of the Levantine dialect. The Arabic language is ancient and beautiful. I studied Arabic at the college level. Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is the standard used for all Arabic media, newspapers, and publications. I teach MSA. I am very perceptive to individual needs. I have some material I prepared myself, as well as many texts, including the AL-KITAB I and II books that were developed and published at the Georgetown University Press. Bottom line. If you are interested in learning Arabic, I am interested in teaching. Lets get in touch.

Math, Science, Writing, and Critical Thinking

During my time at Colorado College, I worked as a chemistry tutor helping my younger peers traverse the challenging General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry course loads. But because of CC's rigorous alternative schedule--where you take one class at a time, for one month each class--it's necessary to learn to pick up new concepts very quickly, I often found myself being asked for help in classes I myself was taking. I never minded this, because being forced to explain something is the best way to ensure your own understanding of the concept. That is why I try to avoid directly answering questions my students ask me, instead dropping hints and asking questions of my own that guide the student to their own answer, in their own words.
My favorite part about teaching is the moment of sudden understanding that you can see in a student's eyes when they've got it. The challenge, of course, ... read more

Remote Tutoring in Physics, Math, & More

I have been teaching in one capacity or another for most of my life. In recent years, my focus has been private tutoring in physics and mathematics, but I have taught students of all ages everything from horseback riding to martial arts. I consider myself a Renaissance woman of sorts, and like to take an interdisciplinary approach to my research. Currently, my research areas include Biophysics/Nonlinear Dynamics--using electrical circuits to model sensory cells in the ear, and Abstract Mathematics--studying the characters of matrix representations of finite groups. For more information about me, including my full CV, check out my website at courtneydevonfleming.com
My approach to both physics and math is very concept oriented. I try to combat the 'shut up and calculate' approach that students often encounter in their schooling. Rather than expecting my students to quick ... read more
