Learning should never be boring!

I specialize in differentiation of instruction. I like to incorporate different types of projects and assignments to help students learn. I also like to use data to drive instruction and to create a customized learning plan for each particular student.
I have experience in teaching special education at the elementary and middle school level in Baltimore city public schools for over four years. I also have experience providing tutoring services with the Bell Foundation for under privileged students. During the summer of 2010 through 2012 I have also worked as a Assistant Camp director at St. Vincent Summer camp for homeless children. These experiences have allowed me to work in the field of education on different levels.

Special Educator with many hats and minds to utilize.

Since the year 1997, I have worked with many students in Baltimore City and Howard County School system as an aid, reading assistant, substitute teacher for many subject areas including Science, Art, Health, and (long-term) English, High Subject (for all subjects) and a Special Educator that carries with many titles and various needs including transitions, SST, 504, and committees.
I believe that we all learn better one way versus another but it does not negate the many ways of learning as well. As a teacher I believe that everyone wants to learn but many are unable or have not been able to see the connections it has on our lives and that we all have talents and skills that needs support, encouragement or attention. Exploring, memorization, practice, demonstrate in as many ways are all but a few ways to instruct, guide and facilitate.

Individualized learning/teaching for optimal comprehension

I take a hands on material approach to learning/teaching. I feel that young students learn best when they can physically learn, such as through blocks/puzzles/interactive learning devices and other similar approaches. I try to let the student use their hands as much as I can to aid in their learning process. For older students such as my high school students or their college counterparts I use more direct audial teaching and visual teaching styles. Every person learns differently, so I cater my teaching style to each individual learner.
I started tutoring in my teens helping young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders develop English and Math skills as well as speech therapy and public speaking. I tutored my fellow students while attending Carroll Community College in English 101 and 102 as well as Creative Writing. I then moved on to being a one on one with high school students ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been employed with my internship for approximately 2 years now. The company is called ChAMP (Children Achieving Maximal Potential), I work with autistic children in their homes. I follow the child's treatment plan. I work on daily living skills, personal hygiene, physical activities, practice email, puzzles/games etc.
I like to have a schedule written out so that the child knows what will be expected of him/her that day. I am very organized and like to complete tasks in a timely manner. I like to address all the questions the child may have during a lesson, I try to explain things in several different ways so that child will grasp the concept in a way that makes sense to him/her.

I was on honor roll in high school on a consistent basis. My best subjects were English and Writing. I attended Pennsylvania State University for Communications with a focus on English Writing and the study of Film and Media Arts. I have a thorough understanding of the English language and a strong knack for comprehension. I believe that I would be able to teach my techniques for not just memorizing subject matter but for comprehending and understanding it.
I help my students to ask questions about why something is this way or that way. It is not as simple as just memorizing subject matter in order to regurgitate it for the upcoming test. The purpose of teaching is to help others understand something that is known as true.

Individualized Instruction for Unique Learners

varies depending upon student's needs
16 years of Public School Teaching Experience 15 years of Preschool Education Teacher I taught students with various special needs in a public school system for sixteen years. I left teaching to raise my son and then to raise my step children. I decided to re-enter the world of work and began to work part time in various offices (insurance, real estate, small business, clothing store and landscaping/gardening center) so that I could have the experiences outside of a classroom environment. I decided to work with children and began to pursue a position as a preschool teacher. I have experience working with adults who happen to have various special needs and I have worked with children from kindergarten through high school. My degree in special education has allowed me to be proficient with individualizing instruction and curriculum to me ... read more

Experienced, creative teacher who will make learning fun.

I have a very hands on approach because I worked with small children. I believe children learn by doing. If they are interested, you won't have behavior issues.
I spent one year as a day to day substitute teacher working all over York County in various special education classrooms. My second year was spent as a long term substitute at an alternative high school for boys where I taught all subjects. My third year I started teaching Specialized Preschool and did this for many years until I retired last year. My students had many exceptionalities. I had typical students visit my classroom every week to read to my students. I did leave Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12 one year to teach in Baltimore, Maryland. I taught kindergarten-first grade to children with Autism and speech issues. I have 3 grown children of my own who I helped in school.
