Love to Teach

I have always believed in "connecting the dots." Knowledge and learning cannot be strictly confined to subject-area teaching. For example, many academic subjects can be studied while one writes, makes art, to creates stories, practices problem solving, or invents solutions to problems we are facing in this modern age. Listening to students and providing opportunities for them to demonstrate knowledge is very important. I never want learning to bore a student. Once understanding is achieved, that knowledge should be put to use and new challenges should be introduced.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an instructional assistant for kindergarden I was responsible for assisting the classroom teacher with daily instrucion and activities. I provided individual instruction when needed and assisted in developing behavior modificaion plans.
I enjoy working with elementary aged children. I believe that all children want to learn but all have individual styles that an instructor must recognize. You can actually see the "a-ha" factor when a child has processed and understood something. That is my favorite expression. It looks like surprise and joy all in one facial expression. I stoped working in education and now realize that I need to be in a classroom setting working with children. I believe it is my natural calling and I plan to be a memorable instructor/tutor.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Paine College with a BA. While in college I had the opportunity to experience working with many different students. My social work degree has allowed me to gain knowledge in areas such as: working with homeless people, working with children that came from unstable households, and much more. In addition I joined a sorority which has allowed me to work in the community and volunteer my services at a variety of schools. For example, Boys&Girls club, Girls Inc. Both while in college.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe ever child has his or her own level of learning. That level can be intrapersonal, interpersonal, visual,etc. Every child must be worked with and not looked over. Not every child learns at the same pace. I am a believer in giving every child a chance. We as educators must find out what level of learning the child is on in order to assist the child's learning needs. If we fail to assess those needs, we have failed the child.
Although I graduated with a BS in Justices and an AA in Criminal Justice, I found myself feeling better working with youth rather than adults. I found myself substituting for elementary schools in Bulloch County and I have loved working in the classroom ever since. I have taught 14 years from Elementary to high school. I am very skilled as a writing and language arts teacher but have also taught special ed (certified) in elementary and high school. I have most of my experience in elementary ed.
