Though I have a degree in classroom education, one-on-one teaching is my heartbeat. I believe it is the highest good for a student's learning. It prevents your student from getting "lost in the crowd" and allows us to focus on his or her needs. My first goal is to determine how the student learns. Using creative strategies and different methods, I do my best to take a confusing or frustrating subject and make it understandable, if not enjoyable.
I traveled for a year with a family and home-schooled their 3 children. The children were in 1st grade, kindergarten, and pre-school and were seriously below grade level in math and reading. In that year, I brought those children beyond grade level in reading skills and comprehension as well as math skills. I have also been a teacher's assistant in 3rd and 4th grade classrooms and have gone through student teaching in the 3rd and 6th grade ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that the relationship between teacher and student is the foundation upon which learning experiences are built. Consistency and trust are the cornerstones of this relationship, which allow the learner to be open-minded, to explore, to ask questions, to solve problems, and to build self-confidence. A positive bond is the key to overcoming risk-factors and helping a child to realize his or her potential.
Having worked in banking, telecommunications, data processing, and education, I have extensive experience in each of these fields and a unique combination of knowledge and skills. I have applied excellent grammatical skills and the ability to quickly learn processes and procedures to developing user guides and other technical documentation, and to developing and delivering on-site and classroom training. Since attaining a B.A. in Elementary Education, I have continually p ... read more

I enjoy breaking difficult subjects into more easily-processed steps. I am willing and able to work with students who are disillusioned and frustrated. I strongly believe that anyone can succeed and approach any subject matter. Tutors, teachers, and parents need to look beyond present hurdles and see the ability that resides in all students to succeed and be confident. Once children see their work start to pay off they develop self-esteem and self-esteem enables them to start taking on more and more challenges. This affects their academics as well as other areas of their lives.
As a recent graduate of the Comparative Religion MA program at Western Michigan University I am eager to begin a career in the field of academics. As a graduate of the Gwen Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University, I was given the opportunity to create art in a recently built, state of the art facility. I started college straight out of High School in 2005 and completed my degree in just over four years. I was awarded the Art Star award for the painting program, I also received a scholarship from the school for the advancement of photography and painting. In the summer of 2009 I taught summer camps at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts teaching kindergarten through middle school.
As an Art Educator I enjoy exploring different creative processes with children. I am able to teach art in its most rudimentary forms and teach with a very technical approach. I understand each child is different and I am able to accommodate for such diversity. I am enthusiastic and love teaching children and teens how fun making art can be.

What more better experience then to start at home by helping my little brother and sister. For the past five years I have tutored my brother and sister in many different subjects. I have done math, reading, science, history. Basically all elementary subjects.I am Bilingual and speak both English, and Spanish fluently.
I try to make the subjects fun for them. For example i bring out cubes, candy, or fruits for math problems so they can visually see the mathamatical problem. If its science I try to make 3D projects so they can better understand, for example the solar system. I try to get there intrest so they can have fun and not be bored and feel like its a waist of time. I know everyone learns in different ways and I understand that because im the same way. Im very patient, and very easy going. My goal is to give them the education they need to succeed in life.
