I have tutored my peers throughout high school, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge of mathematics with others. During high school, I scored a perfect score of 800 on both SAT II Math Level 2 and Korean. I am currently attending Normandale with a major in Liberal Arts with Emphasis in Mathematics. I hope to transfer to a 4 year university to double major in economics and mathematics.
I am very patient especially for students who learn slower than others because I was always a slow learner myself. I am very happy to repeat myself or go over other examples to help the student understand the concept. I also like to emphasize concept over memorization. Of course, math has a good amount of memorization, and yes, it is important; however, I believe that learning concept is more useful than sheer memorization, and understanding a concept is better than memorizing formulas and properties.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a positive approach to teaching. I am very patient when I go through the lessons and go back and review any older material if it is needed in order to grasp the current lesson of the day. I work hard to make the content stick and I always enjoy to see that light of realization in their eyes when they grasp the concept I am teaching them.
My background in Atmospheric Sciences gives me a good base in science and math. I feel my skills will allow me to tutor with both science and math classes, including Calculus I and II classes. I have spent over a year at Project for Pride for Learning in Minneapolis tutoring low income people on basic and moderate computer skills and job searching advice when I was an volunteer there from May 2008 to July 2009.

I enjoy working with students of all types of learning styles. I have worked as a Writing Lab tutor in the past and now I am enthusiastic to teach students about a subject I have over 15 years of experience working with daily. I would enjoy teaching students the basics of accounting and bookkeeping and give them an overview of the accounting cycle. I believe that I am personable, easy-going, and patient person. Building a strong foundation in accounting can be beneficial to all students who might start a business, need to run a household, or who might choose accounting as a career. I am different from most teachers in the fact that I have 23 years of teaching experience, spread throughout grades 1-8. I also have a unique background in Early Childhood Education, having spent one year at the St. Cloud State Campus Lab School’s Preschool, and more recently having begun a Preschool program at Guardian Angels School. In addition, I established a before and after school child care program, which I ran for five years. I see teaching as a vocation. My desire to leave the world a better place drives me to ensure that each student receives my best efforts. I have been told by many people that I work very well with students in one-on-one situations.

A Little Bit About Me...

My first experience tutoring was in 8th grade when my 6th grade math teacher asked me to help some of his struggling students. I greatly enjoyed the experience and wanted to continue. I didn't get another chance to tutor until my freshman year of college. I volunteered to help a young man who could not take notes for himself. As the semester progressed, he asked for my help in understanding the material, so I began informally tutoring him in Biology. I also had the opportunity to tutor a young student in Short Calculus. Most currently I have been teaching a lab section at the University of Minnesota. The class is about 18 students and meets once a week for 3 hours.
I am a very motivating teacher. I encourage my students to strive to do their best with the philosophy that they will be amazed at what they can accomplish. I try to get my students excited about the maaterial b ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Although I have recently graduated with a degree in business, I am interested in pursuing a career involving people. My previous employment was a sales position that was very customer-oriented. I also have 3 years of experience helping children by teaching swimming lessons. Assisting my 15-year-old sister with her school work is also a regular activity.
I believe in a teaching style that reflects a student's learning style. Whether they learn best by hearing, seeing, or doing it is important to cater to the student. My teaching style works around this philosphy and tends to be a combination of all 3 styles.
