Recently retook Precalculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and Calculus 3 at Virginia Western Community College. I have a background tutoring and running a tutoring center for STEM subjects at a community college for 3 years. I have been tutoring in some form for 6 years. i am pretty relaxed and informal, but I expect students to do the work assigned. I help, but I don't do the work for them. I use Socratic questioning to get students to understand the material. I really enjoy being around kids and helping them learn new things. When you teach a kid something and they finally get it, the sight of their face lighting up is priceless. I believe that one should teach using a variety of methods because all kids do not learn the same way and each individual method shows something new each time. I believe that all kids can learn so much if they work as hard as they can and put forth maximum effort. I think it is very easy to learn/teach using as many hands on examples as possible.

The most important aspect of education that I have learned is that it is not about teachers making a difference; it is about helping students make a difference. Knowing this, I strive to help all students succeed using the most efficient learning strategies possible. Technology is a growing tool in the classroom and I intend to use it as much as possible to engage students and help them learn. Also, it is important to incorporate many learning strategies into planning in order to reach all students. Critical thinking strategies and reading strategies also need to be integrated into a lesson as well. It is important to me to provide all necessary adaptations to help all students succeed.

Secondly, laughter and enjoyment need to be part of the learning process. Concepts should be taught from the bottom up, where every new piece of information is simply an outgrowth of existing knowledge, rather than something new that needs digesting.
