ALL STUDENTS WELCOME!

Whenever I can, I like to be very hands-on in my teaching my students. For example, once I was teaching my class about trees. I had them go outside and collect samples of bark which had fallen on the ground. Then we created a gigantic mural in my classroom and glued the pieces of bark to a tree we had drawn.
I have been a self-employed Tutor since April, 2006. Special needs and home schooled students are welcomed. Nothing makes me happier than when I see the smiles on the faces of my students when they succeed rather than fail. I assist all students in skill building and creating a life-long love of learning. I provide on-going feedback to parents and am happy to work with the teachers of my students.

Experienced Tutor

I enjoy teaching and working with children. While I believe that all children can learn, they do so in their own ways and at their own pace. It is the tutor’s responsibility to ensure that the student(s) understand the material. It is important to show students how one idea builds on the last. I will help your child learn the material in his/her own way. I consider myself to be patient, non-judgmental, and knowledgeable of the subject matter. I truly believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. I am very proud of the kind letters of thanks that I have received from parents of some of my students this year.

A Little Bit About Me...

I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics from Paine College, Augusta Georgia. While attending Paine, I tutored middle and high school students through the Upward Bound program. The experiences I gained led me into the teaching profession. I have tutored students in mathematics and science for over 20 years. I also have the unique ability to connect with students of all kinds.
I love to see the look in students’ eyes when I help them understand a concept or when their discovery light turns on. I believe all students are capable of learning provided they put forth an earnest effort. I also have a teacher’s insight and know what skills are important for your child to learn that will be valuable throughout their life of learning. I know when a child needs to be encouraged and challenged in order to reach his or her full potential. As a parent of two young ... read more

I find great joy in teaching and learning! I have taught 4th and 5th graders as well as college students, and have worked as a tutor/volunteer with a variety of organizations. When teaching a particular subject, I feel it is important to address both the additude and aptitude of the student because they both go hand in hand. Students do not grasp a concept in any subject until they actually experience success in solving a problem dealing with that concept. That success improves their attitude toward the subject and leads to more success. I want to give a student as many opportunities as possible to succeed at solving problems and grasping concepts. I will let him/her solve problems and then give them constructive feedback. This will allow the student to have those small successes that lead to an improved understanding and appreciation of the subject.

A good description of my teaching style sould be very descriptive, and easy to follow. I break down the math into a series of steps, and practice them until they are mastered. For the students that have already decided that they hate math, I try to excite them with topics that they can relate to, such as sports, or cooking. We both make compromises, and I offer treats, or other incentives.
In high school I served as a big sister, and that's when I gained my passion for kids, and the importance of educating others. That experience led me to apply for a service scholarship which I earned to attend Florida State University. In college I volunteered at a local elementary school, following a group of students as their tutor until I graduated college. This service led to the beginning of my teaching career in Broward County. I sponsored an after school step team, and served as ... read more

I currently have my AA degree in nursing.I've spent a lot of time in the student life and leadership department that works one on one with students to help them with college success.

I always enjoyed Science as a child and majored in Biology in college. An advantage that I feel I have for the success of my students is majoring in Biology and having a great amount of experience in laboratory techniques.
