I have studied the indicated fields for over two years at high school and university levels. Also, I have taught English as a Second Language as an intern while studying abroad in London for one semester. For this position, I taught from self-made exercises, lesson plans, and individualised activities focusing on English comprehension, writing, communication, grammar, and literature.
I prefer to incorporate student participation as much as possible instead of giving lecture-style instruction to learn their unique learning styles and to understand more about my students. With this understanding, I will be able to understand how I can better instruct them and test them on the material being taught.

Math teachers are notorious for being vague or teaching solely from text. I believe understanding mathematics does not necessarily make you fit to teach it. I have had great success adapting to a student's language and using analogies to make math come to life. It's a fact that no human likes an activity if they are not good at it, attitude is half the battle; if I can help my student to get better at math, I know they will stop disliking the subject and thereby learn more. I have been asked why I'm not a math teacher, the answer is, I believe I was meant to make an impact on an individual basis and that is my goal in being a tutor, to make a difference!

I am, by nature, an "explainer" who can easily put himself in the shoes of the student. With patience, and a knack for common communication, I have been able to cogently and clearly, I feel, get across abstruse and complex concepts, issues and ideas to those patient enough to follow the process. I have been an active member of my local chapter of Cafe Scientifique (Pittsburgh), and this has allowed me, over several years, to communicate with the local scientific community on a wide variety of topics. I feel that I am one of their lead expositors of Scientific topics, and this skill is a natural path towards tutoring.
Have been teaching and tutoring all my life! I have been told by many people that this is a natural talent I possess. I am somewhat of a generalist in the sciences and keep pretty much up to date in the field. I feel that my training in Psychology is an added skill set ... read more

This particular position interests me because I struggled with math through middle school and understand the frustration it can create for a student. Mathematics is now my strongest subject and I chose the profession of accounting to utilize those strengths. During my time at college, I helped other students with their studies in math and business, specifically statistics and quantitative analysis. Although this teaching experience was with college level students, I have held a summer job working with 8-12 year olds for the past four years. When I finish my Master’s Degree, I may consider teaching at an institution such as CCAC because I enjoy helping others with their education.
As a result of my post-high school studies in mathematics and business, I feel I'm suited to tutor people in those subjects. Statistics, quantitative methods, and analytical methods are my strongest s ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always loved to learn. In college, I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BS in Biology. However, I made it a point to minor in Chemistry and Linguistics and to certify in American Sign Language. I have always had the desire to achieve the highest goals I could set for myself. While taking on the classes mentioned above, I learned great organizational skills and drive. I helped students at the University whenever they needed it. I started a tutoring program in my Calculus II class, and tutored students in this topic. I have also put in extensive time at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. This has allowed me to tutor and assist ill children with missed homework assignments. Also, through the hospital I have learned to be sensitive to each child and each family. I also learned excellent planning and time distribution by planning many activity days, music sess ... read more

From high school to graduate school I have enjoyed being a scholar of many disciplines. In the last year, I took it upon myself to take what I know and teach it to young enthusiastic scholars, and it has been immensely rewarding. I only have a years worth of experience in tutoring mathematics, but I have tutored students in courses as advanced as Analytic Geometry and Calculus III to early college-level courses such as College Algebra.
I have enjoyed tutoring math students who are advanced learners and students who are beginning their study of college-level math. No matter their capability, each student's success is very important to me. I have often met with students outside of tutoring sessions to explain a problem, and had e-mail conversations with several students to ensure they're understanding material. In tutoring sessions, I like making sure each student is actively pa ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I prefer to begin by having the student describe the current subject matter to the best of his/her abilities to determine a starting point. I have found that having the student talk through the subject matter can be useful in determining his/her strengths and level of understanding. I like to have the student work through some problems they have not been assigned from their book/notes so that they are able to practice and work through some other problems before attempting any assignments. I have also found that it is useful to go over any previous quizzes or tests related to the current subject matter as difficulties are sometimes related to previous work because with these subjects the work tends to build upon itself.
I have been selected as a peer tutor through Carlow University for Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.
