It's all about you, the students. We all learn differently, so I like to tailor my style to the person I'm teaching. Let me know what you want to learn, and I'll work with you to get the best result. I've been an informal tutor for as long as I can remember. I've tutored my peers and my juniors in English grammar, spelling, vocabulary, writing, composition, essay, formal reports, reading comprehension, and anything else involved in English. I also have formally studied Japanese and tutored in that. Formally, I have worked as an ESL teacher for The Salvation Army. I have taught 5th and 6th grade ESL students for this semester, and I have taught English two summers in Korea at intensive English immersion camps. I have also tutored adult and college level students in English at UT while obtaining my degree and enjoyed it the most. Having quality one on one or small group time is the best for students to acquire the knowledge they need, and have instructors that can focus on their individual needs. Not only did I tutor students, but I also helped colleagues whose first language was not English with assignments and my college roommate who was from Taiwan. A Little Bit About Me...

I try to communicate concepts in a simple and organized way and provide "shortcuts" whenever possible. I also try to keep in mind my own feelings and experiences as a learner of a foreign language (for me, Japanese). This helps me to be patient and understanding of the pressures and difficulties my students face. I use my own experiences as examples when trying to illustrate a point and give advice as a friend would. Hopefully this injects some humor and reality into my classes. I think I have taken my cues from the Japanese kindergarten teacher model, which is that of a big sister. I take responsibility for my students and serve as their role model; I am understanding and patient.
