Special Tutor/Teacher

I have taught school for 29 1/2 years in Special Education . My positions were in Preschool Special Needs, Elementary Special Needs, and High School Occupational Course of Study. I have taught in both SC and NC. I love teaching preschool -elementary students. I have always had a passion for teaching because both of my grandmothers and my mother were teachers. Now my 3 sisters are teachers.
I try to teach by the style that seems to be the best for that student to learn. I am very patient and realize that each student takes a varied amount of time to grasp material. Hands on materials and fun activities are great ways to keep the student engaged.

I have B.Sc. in Fine Arts with a minor in Special Education from Texas Women's University; a B.F.A in Graphic Design from the University of Kansas; and M.F.A in Painting and Textiles from Texas Women's University. I am a graduate of Appalachian State University's Early Childhood program. I gained experience through my undergraduate internships and practicums as a student. I have worked in conjunction with university faculty in a rigorous university lab program that models best practices for early learning and development. This program serves as a site for teacher training. I have experience working with children with special needs, as well as typically developing children ranging in age from 1-5.
