Learning Math can be FUN!

I try to explain concepts by explaining the methods behind them. Once a student understands the concepts, it is easier for them to apply them to other problem situations.
With over 35 years experience teaching math, I have successfully taught students from third grade through college calculus. I enjoy math, and my students are able to understand it in a one-to-one teaching environment. During this time of closed schools, it is difficult for students to understand and adapt to this new way of learning. Many teachers are overwhelmed as they had to change their teaching methods with just a couple of months remaining in the school year. I have been teaching online classes at Forsyth Tech. for some time. Transfering this experience to one-on-one tutoring gives me the opportunity to help students that want to end the school year successfully. Let me help you improve your understanding ... read more

I consider myself a facilitator of information more than a teacher. Students must be accountable for their own learning. A Little Bit About Me...

Sensitive to individual needs and learning styles, my educational approach involves an extensive selection of teaching modalities as well as organizational tools to enhance student success. My teaching style focuses on kinesthetic, inquiry-based activities which promote an active-learner environment. I believe that everyone can learn; by connecting new knowledge with previous knowledge and illustrating concepts with hands-on projects. While my student-based curriculum ensures that subject matter is presented correctly and completely, I also work with the student to create an individual framework of understanding of how each individual student learns. Empowering the student to organize, filter, and construct their own learning experience is a skill that can be applied to any course of study. I love to learn and I enjoy helping students find their own path to life long learning ... read more

I believe that are students are learners. I believe that a tutor must figure out what student have trouble understanding in any subject. After learning where the student is having trouble, I instruct them on methods for studying the materials. I allows eneanged the student in guided practice when solving a problem. Then i have the student work the problem from start to finish. I check to make sure they solved the equation correctly. I point their mistake as well informed them of what they got right.
