Scaffolding and positive reinforcement describes my teaching style; combined with a healthy dose of humor and individual, associative modeling. Learning should be fun and challenging. Busy work doesn't have to take such a negative connotation.
My experience is as broad as it is varied. When I taught at Sylvan, I taught every course they needed me to. When I taught professionally, I taught teams of scientists and then instructional designers. I'm comfortable with all ages and backgrounds.

I enjoy working with all learners - no matter the age, child or adult. I enjoy the challenge it brings of figuring out what teaching method works for each individual. In my experience, it takes ingenious and quick thinking to activate the learning potential for some learners. I believe that switching the types of teaching is effective to continue interest on behalf of the learner. In a math example, it is helpful to not work on problems for the entire time. Discovery using hands on concrete examples is often a "fun" and effective break. My desire is for students to learn more than they thought possible.

I graduated with a BS in history in 1996. After nearly seven years working for a large communications corporation I returned to college to get my teaching credentials. I completed a years student teaching and have taught middle school and high school at a local private school. At that school I often tutored students, offered help on my own time, and was the monitor of the school's study hall, Homework Club. Since 2009 I have taught adults at a local technical college.
