I enjoy working with all learners - no matter the age, child or adult. I enjoy the challenge it brings of figuring out what teaching method works for each individual. In my experience, it takes ingenious and quick thinking to activate the learning potential for some learners. I believe that switching the types of teaching is effective to continue interest on behalf of the learner. In a math example, it is helpful to not work on problems for the entire time. I've learned over the years that in every situation, including the classroom, that in teaching writing, the instructor must begin where the student is, recognize and affirm existing positive skills and knowledge, and build on those. In College I would form groups to try and study for upcoming test or exams. Doing this it really helped me to learn what I was studying and how other people learn as well. Patients is a amazing thing to have when trying to teach. Many students learn at a different pace and I feel that finding that pace for every student is important. My teaching style is defined by my father, a teacher and coach. Successful in both the classroom and on the athletic field, he made sure that each student and athlete knew what was expected of them. I enjoy spending time with each student and I try to introduce humor to the subject. I like to teach with hands on approaches and at time lecture to ensure details are met. I feel the students can teach each others and small group settings tend to lead to better educational learning.
