I believe the best way for someone to learn something is through application and repetition. As both a tutor and youth lacrosse coach I have had success by teaching my students how to approach problems rather than simply giving them answers. A Little Bit About Me...

I began my tutoring experience in the fall of 2009 with a program called Breakthrough Manchester. It serves underprivileged students in the area who do not have the resources to succeed. They ranged from grade 5 to 8. With Breakthrough I worked one-on-one with students as well as in a classroom setting in which I conducted my own lessons. I helped students with a variety of subjects such as science, math, social studies, geography, and even organizational skills. I worked with children from all walks of life, including kids with disabilities. During my time at Breakthrough I also spent two days a week tutoring mentally disabled adults. I earned my degree in Human Services from Virginia Wesleyan College, after graduating I returned to Massachusetts and took several classes towards a Masters degree at Anna Maria College. During this time I worked as a substitute teacher for the Spencer/East Brookfield school district and Leicester schools. I was also employed by the Spencer schools as an in home tutor working with the school, teachers and students unable to attend school due to injury or behavioral difficulty in the schools. I attended Clark University as a pre-med student and graduated with a BA in Biological Sciences. After graduation, I worked as a lab technician in a clinical immunology lab for 2 years prior to attending WPI for graduate school. While in grad school, I worked as a teaching assistant/tutor for 3 of the 4 years. When I was working as a post-doctoral fellow at UMASS Medical Center, I worked as a long-term substitute at Shrewsbury High School for AP Biology and picked up daily substitute teacher jobs here and there while tutoring for AP biology. As a teacher, I have taught high school biology and chemisty, with the majority of time teaching chemistry: level 1, 2 and AP.
