A Little Bit About Me...

To be clear up front I am not a teacher. However, I have acquired valuable skills working as a highschool paraprofessional for almost eight years. I spent the majority of my days in math classes and science classes helping students and learning the subject right along with them. I also spent an hour or two every day in study hall to help students with homework (math, science, english, social studies) Aside from the practical knowledge I gained in each classroom I was able to find new and different ways over the years to help individual students with very individual needs.
Part of the advantage I have as a math tutor in particular is the fact that I failed math miserably in highschool myself. I have spent over a year at Project for Pride for Learning in Minneapolis tutoring low income people on basic and moderate computer skills and job searching advice when I was an volunteer there from May 2008 to July 2009.
I have a positive approach to teaching. I am very patient when I go through the lessons and go back and review any older material if it is needed in order to grasp the current lesson of the day. I believe a successful instructor is the most important part of teaching; one who is knowledgeable, wise, and be able to effectively communicate the knowledge to the students. I believe this can be achieved primarily by knowing the entirety of the subject taught and being able to connect with the students on an individual basis. I now attend graduate school to obtain an MS in Applied Anthropology.
