A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of Chico State with a BS in Computer Science and I was a student of their honors program. I was not a formal tutor, but I spent a lot of time with junior classmates helping them to understand their projects and meet their deadlines. After graduating, I worked as an instructor at Mendocino College. I taught computer science classes to young adults from different backgrounds and with different learning styles. I worked as an Instructional Aide at Charter Academy of the Redwoods. I worked with middle and high school students throughout the day and tutored individual students on occasion.

A Little Bit About Me...

My most recent department chair, Dr. Marie Jureit called me the best teacher on campus. I've taught and tutored students for 37 years in music theory and composition, music of Africa and Latin America, and mathematics through college freshman algebra. As Director of the Freshman Program, I was responsible for designing and implementing programs in developing reading and writing proficiency, and overall ability to succeed in academics. I currently tutor, and edit and market k - 12 math materials.
I discovered my gift for teaching as an undergraduate and it has been my life's work. I have a diverse field of experience. I received a dual B.A. in Linguistics and Anthropology in 2006. This allows me to understand language tutoring at a deeper level than most tutors. This foundation has been augmented by 5 years of teaching experience in ESOL, History, Academic Writing, and Professional interview training which I have conducted all over the world. In 2009, I received my MA in applied linguistics. This degree worked as a capstone to perfect my teaching style in regards to ESL.
I try to foster independent learners. If the pupil is perpetually dependent on the teacher, then nothing is gained- money and efforts are wasted.
